MacWorld.com is reporting that Apple, Inc. will use tonights Oscars to debut it’s much anticipated iPhone commercial.
According to sources tonights ad will be a teaser for the new iPhone which is set to ship sometime in June from Cingular and Apple, Inc. No further details regarding the ad were released from Apple.
The 79th Academy Awards will air tonight at 8pm ET on ABC. Last year, almost 40 million people watched the Oscars on ABC.
This seems to be a fitting time to debut the iPhone ad campaign not only because of the huge viewership, but because the Oscars in themselves is touted as a high end, glamorous awards show and Apple will be trying to convery that same message by marketing the iPhone as a breakthrough, high end, sleek device.
Some Apple followers and technology analysts reported being quite surprised Apple chose not to use the huge viewership of the Super Bowl this year to roll out the new iPhone campaign as they did with the Macintosh commericial back in 1984, but using the Oscar’s seems to make more sense, plus it’s a little closer to the release date which is set for June.
No one really knows what kind of commercial Apple will use tonight, but chances are they will be going for another huge, breakthrough ad campaign that people will be talking about 22 years from now. Just as people are still discussing the 1984 Super Bowl ad.

Well, it really wasn’t the groundbreaking ad 1984 was, but then again it was meant to be more of a teaser. Look for a better ad in April.
Here’s a fake ad I found on YouTube and I have to admit I actually like it better.
