In true Microsoft fashion… the Redmond, WA company announced 2 tablet offerings late yesterday with no pricing info or release dates. It’s one thing to announce a products and a whole other thing to actually ship them in volume. I’m also curious to know if they decided to build it themselves or are using 3rd party hardware manufacturers. Microsoft has generally went with multiple hardware manufacturers except in a couple instances like the Zune or XBox.
I’m also still not sold on Gates idea that people want a full computer in a tablet. That type of tablet has been around for over a decade and nobody bought them so why would they now? Not surprising to many… I agree with Jobs who said the tablet needed to be far better than a smart phone or laptop at some key things like browsing the web, email, viewing photos, videos, music, games and books. It’s till up in the air if Microsoft can deliver or if it’ll just be another unrealized idea from the guys in Redmond.
I will admit I do kinda like the idea of the protective cover also being a keyboard. Apple should offer the current Smart Covers with that option as an upgrade for the new iPad. Could just be a Bluetooth Smart Cover/Keyboard.
Watch the promo video below for the just announced Microsoft Surface tablet and let me know what you think. Are you excited about it’s potential? Hate it? Let me know in the comments below.
Update: After a friend commented on Facebook… Yes I know that one version will run Windows RT and the other is gonna run Windows 8? Why do you need or even want to run a desktop OS on a mobile device? Been around for over a decade and nobody bought it. As for the release date… said sometime this fall. Typical for MS. Why not announce it and release it within a week or two when buzz is at its highest?
