For me there just aren't enough wifi hotspots around. I need to have some cell service. But, what AT&T is doing is more akin to highway robbery than running a phone company. My solution i went with cost me $25 a month but i keep my same # but lose my data unless im around wifi. I got a gophone sim card from at&t and my plan cost me $26.25 a month for unlimited text and 250 minutes a month and the only downfall is when i need the net i need wifi but its always around. I'll admit that while this did work for me for a while I did eventually decide that I needed to be connected for work purposes and when the iPhone became available on Verizon purchased it. So far I'm loving the service compared to AT&T's. I will say that for a lot of people the solutions we both used are a great option. My brother is in a similar situation. He loves the iPhone, but doesn't want to pay the monthly fee for data so just uses an older iPhone with T-Mobile with no data plan and then just connects when he's on Wifi at work or at home and still has the phone part to make calls if he needs to. Lots of solutions that will work for most people. Just have to get creative if you want to save money. Feel free to post back here in a few months to let people know how it worked out for you. Nice. Thats my only kink right now as I currently need to use earbuds to keep the device's mic from picking up the speakerphone audio.
